Its not ideal world. I have personally experienced both types of desi companies. Some one has commented about hardships of Desi employers that they cant scale beyond 50 employees, lot of competition etc.
The reason they cant scale is they cant think beyond immediate future. When I suggested your ex-employee could bring you business, it was termed as long term sort of non-practical thinking. No wonder why many desi employers are where they are.
Overwhelming majority of desi employers that remain in staffing business havent learnt anything about running business. They are middle men not adding value to employee or the client. They thrive on fear, anxiety in employees and scare tactics created by contracts that they know are unenforceable.
What they dont realize is it takes 1 disgruntled employee who has nothing to lose and is willing them to take to the cleaners.

We have received reports that Sen. Cornyn will be introducing a bill called the SKIL (Securing Knowledge Innovation and Leadership) bill on May 1st 2006. As can be guessed from the title, this bill has lots of pro-legal immigration clauses. We will make the details that we have received public once we get the permission to do so.

Agreed that H-1B has a fixed date. But from the employer standpoint, you're their "full-time, permanent" employee on H-1B, right? Because Future GC job could be same job on H-1B, only difference being on H-1B your job has fixed end date (noted by I-94), and GC job has no fixed end date, hence permanent. It does not make that current job on H-1B permanent.
Temp Job and Permannet Job can have same job title and job duties. Just like contract job and full-time job can have same job title and job duties, but one is employee of the company and other one is not.

EB2 India - Filed Sept 06
140 Approved by TSC in Apr 07
485/EAD/AP Filed on July 2nd at NSC (R Williams 9 :02 am)
LUD on 140 - 08/05
Recd EAD and AP - 09/06
Have not received 485 receipt or FP notice. EAD and AP are from CSC - I recide in CA.
Good luck to all those still waiting !

Guys wake up and fight to make the porting rules very strong if not stop porting. The rule should be if I140 for porting is denied then the applicant should loose his/her initial EB3 priority date also as he /she has indicated that he/she is no longer working in the position as described in EB3 labor. This will make sure that fraudulent applicants cannot port from EB3 to EB2.

There are many genuine cases, who could have applied in EB2, but due to some erroneous counsel by employer or legal, ended up in EB3 category. Having an option to port PD when applying under alternate category is available, and people eligible taking advantage of this should be allowed to do it and encouraged. Given the market condition, if some one could qualify under EB2 and successfully secure a EB2 labor/I-140, then it must be welcomed and only genuine cases could do so. People with EB3 PD of 2001 or 2002 and waiting for GC might already have worked one or two years prior to starting the process and might be in country working for almost a decade and some even have done their Masters and have the experience. With all this, if they take advantage of this, then they deserve it. I am not able to understand your concern, and also expecting/requesting the porting process to be stopped !! Does not sound right.
